2007 Graduation ceremony
Baraka Agricultural College, graduation ceremony of
2006/07 Certificate and Diploma in Sustainable Agriculture and Rural
Development classes was held on Friday 7th December, 2007. The Guests
of honor were Ms. Mary Kamau, National Director of Agriculture Extension
Services and Rt. Rev. Peter Kairo, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese
of Nakuru, who was represented by Fr. Moses Muraya, Vicar General,
Catholic Diocese of Nakuru. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Peter
Gichure, the Director of Academic Linkages, Catholic University
of Eastern Africa (CUEA)

2007 BARAKA FARMERS FIELD
DAY
Baraka farmers’ field day for this year was
held on June 15, 2007. The theme was “Sustainable agriculture
and rural development for improved livelihoods”. 677 farmers
from various parts of the country attended. The success of the day
was contributed to by various exhibitors from 11 different organizations
(Churches, NGOs. Government departments, Ministries, CBOs and Baraka
Agricultural College)
Of importance for the day was experience sharing, learning of practical
oriented skills and demonstrations in the various exhibition stands.
The guest for the day was the District Commissioner, Mr. Jan Ireri
who was represented by Kamara Division Officer Mr. Obara who emphasised
on the importance of sustainable agriculture. Read

still reminded to attend our short and day release courses which
are available to farmers on request and prior arrangements. Read

2007 BARAKA SCHOOLS' AGRICULTURAL
DAY
Schools’ agricultural day was held on June 13,
2007 and 2,395 students from 41 different institutions (Primary
schools, secondary schools and colleges) attended. The overall theme
of this year’s field day is “Sustainable agriculture
and rural development for improved livelihoods” but the schools’
agricultural day had its sub theme as “Achieving sustainable
livelihoods through responsive education programmes in agriculture
and rural development”. Schools had an opportunity to exhibit
some of their activities that were in line with the days’
theme. They also leant a lot from other schools including Baraka
Agricultural College students. The day's Guest was Mrs. Birir an
Education Officer from Molo Division.


OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF DIPLOMA COURSE
IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT
On Friday, May 11, 2007 Baraka Agricultural College officially
launched its Diploma in Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development
Course (DSARD) by Rt. Rev. Peter Kairo, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese
of Nakuru who also blessed and officially opened the new college
buildings.

The Bishop also launched and blessed a beekeeping book authored
by Thomas Carroll, head of beekeeping with Baraka Agricultural College.
The title of the book is “A
beginner’s guide to beekeeping in Kenya”. The book
examines the reality and the opportunity of keeping in Kenya. Thomas
shares his experience of 14 years of keeping development in Kenya
and other African countries.
